Where Apex babies arrive
Apex doesn’t have a hospital of its own, but it sits between two excellent ones. Just down the road, UNC Health Rex Holly Springs — open since 2021 and barely ten minutes from most Apex neighborhoods — has seven private labor and delivery rooms, each with its own labor tub and nitrous oxide, and a team that works closely with both OBs and midwives. It’s the new-hospital feel without the new-hospital chaos.
The other favorite is WakeMed Cary Hospital, home to the Women’s Pavilion & Birthplace — a calmer, lower-volume unit with big laboring tubs and private suites, an easy drive up US-64 or NC-55. And when a pregnancy needs more horsepower, Apex families head to UNC REX or WakeMed Raleigh, both of which I attend regularly. Whichever you choose, I know the route, the parking, and the check-in desk — including at 2 a.m.
Apex neighborhoods I serve
All of them — this is home turf. Scotts Mill and Haddon Hall, Bella Casa and Salem Village, the growing neighborhoods around Friendship and Olive Chapel, and the streets off Salem Street downtown. Because I’m local, prenatal visits are easy to schedule, my on-call response is fast, and postpartum help is genuinely around the corner — sometimes literally.
Apex has become one of the youngest-family towns in Wake County, full of first babies and parents whose support networks are scattered across the country. That’s exactly the gap a doula fills.
Birth support, then postpartum care
Birth support begins with prenatal visits at your kitchen table — your hopes, your hospital’s routines, a plan that bridges the two. I’m on call as your due date approaches, and in labor you get continuous, hands-on support and a calm, familiar presence from early labor at home to meeting your baby.
Postpartum is where being local really shines. I can be at your door for daytime help — feeding support, newborn soothing, a chance for you to shower, eat, and sleep — or overnight, so you get real rest while someone experienced tends the baby. No long drive, no stranger: the same trusted face from your birth, now in your living room.
The 7 Moons way
I’m Shannon Edwards, a certified labor and postpartum doula, and 7 Moons is my practice, built here in Apex. Consultations are free, relaxed, and honest — thirty minutes at your home or by phone, no pressure, no obligation. Neighbor to neighbor: you’ll leave knowing whether we’re the right fit.
Two phases, one trusted face — that’s the whole idea behind 7 Moons Doula.
