Where Cary babies arrive
WakeMed Cary Hospital, on Kildaire Farm Road, is the only hospital in western Wake County, and its Women’s Pavilion & Birthplace has a devoted local following. Parents describe it as boutique-feeling and peaceful: modern maternity suites with large laboring tubs, a low-volume unit where things never feel rushed, and even a Mother’s Milk Bank on site. It’s a wonderful fit for first-time parents and for anyone hoping for a lower-intervention birth with a hospital’s safety net.
West Cary families also have UNC Health Rex Holly Springs close by — a newer hospital with labor tubs and nitrous oxide in every room — and I attend there as well. Between the two, most Cary families find a birthplace that matches the experience they’re hoping for, and part of my job is helping you think through that choice early, while switching is still easy.
Cary neighborhoods I serve
I support families across Cary — Lochmere and MacGregor Downs, Preston and the Kildaire Farm corridor, Cary Park and Amberly, Panther Creek and Highcroft in West Cary, and the growing downtown around the new park. Prenatal visits happen at your home, and both hospitals are short drives from anywhere in town.
Cary is also one of the most international corners of the Triangle — SAS and RTP families from everywhere, many of them an ocean away from grandparents. I hear the same thing again and again: “We don’t have family here.” A doula becomes that family for the birth, and postpartum support becomes the village afterward.
Birth support, then postpartum care
We meet during pregnancy to build a birth plan that fits WakeMed Cary’s routines — what the tubs are like, how monitoring works, what your options are if labor slows down. In labor, you get continuous hands-on support, help making decisions with clear information, and a partner who’s included and confident rather than watching from the corner.
Then I follow you home. Postpartum visits cover newborn care and feeding support, sleep shaping for the whole household, and practical help that lets you actually recover. Overnight support is especially popular with Cary families whose partners are heading back to work quickly — real sleep changes everything.
The 7 Moons way
I’m Shannon Edwards, a certified labor and postpartum doula based in neighboring Apex — Cary is my backyard too. My consultations are free, relaxed, and honest: thirty minutes, no pressure, no obligation. You’ll leave knowing whether we’re the right fit, whether you hire me or not.
Two phases, one trusted face — that’s the whole idea behind 7 Moons Doula.
